This is the first one of these small date posts where I have actually wanted to say "yes". I'm having difficulty seeing the weakness in Liberty but that could just be me. http://www.lincolncentforum.com/small-dates-vs-large-dates/
Apologies, I am not a great photographer and small cents make challenging subjects. One more pic from my cannon EOS. To the naked eye, the E and Y of liberty look weak at the top. As fyi, I bought several hundred proof pennies, 60's and 70's a while back thinking they might be good long term investments, (they all cost about a buck). Was reading about small cents this morning, so I have about 12 1970 S proof pennies and this one just looks different from the others, which I think are all Large Cents. Pic attached. Thanks for your reply furryfrog02
Btw, I was using this resource, http://www.lincolncentresource.com/smalldates/1970Ssmalldate.html The proof small cent looks very much like my coin, I think, I hope.
The most definitive check is to look at the internal end on the 9. On the small date it is both pointed and nearly horizontal. Since there are no other choices (it is either large or small, period), any one indicator necessarily has to have all indicators. BTW, missed on the reference is the notch on the crook of the 7 (present on the large date only. Oh, and yours is a small date.
Wahoo.. Am I allowed to enquire what it might be worth range wise, or do I have to move to the other board for that ? Thanks
Breaking news, I bought 10 of these from the same seller, at the same time. 99c each. They are all the same, all look to be small date. I think I need to take them to get them checked out. Unless you all want to see pictures of all the candidates.
