I purchased this coin recently and noticed what appears to be doubling on the date and IGWT. Do you guys know of any DDO's for this coin?
From Wexler: 1943-S WDDO-003 Description: Class I Rotated Hub Doubling: A strong CCW spread shows on the date, the star, LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST. Obverse Die Markers: Die scratch from lower center of E through R to lower left of T of LIBERTY; die scratch SE from lower right of G of God. Perhaps you could post some photos of those areas to identify the die markers on your coin. Your photos are identical to those found in the Wexler reference for this variety. I do not believe that this variety is attributed by any of the grading companies.
It looks like a 43S DDO-006 in the CONECA Listings. http://www.conecaonline.org/content/jeffersondoubleddies19421943.html#_1943-S Larry Nienaber
No, my camera needs adjusting I tried looking this up on CONECA before I posted, but I guess I passed over it. Thanks, I will get more pics for the markers. I want to know exactly what DDO it is so i can label it correctly. Thanks guys!
I asked the OP to take photos of the entire OBV thinking there may be "eye" doubling as well , which I believe puts it in the top 10 according to Fivaz, if my memory serves me well . But you more the Nickel expert than I .
The Doubled Eye Variety is a 1943-P, this coin is a 1943-S and it is considered a minor variety even though it is pretty cool.
Well this has been the first time I've actually been able to SEE the doubling on coin(s) posted that was not machine or strike doubling. So with that said what happens to a DD coin that gets worn in the DD area? Is there a way to tell that the coin has DDO or DDR if the area is worn?
It could be theoretically possible given the extra-thickness and die-markers(assuming there were still some left that weren't also too worn down), but I can't imagine anyone paying a premium for it as a doubled die, so identifying it would be mostly academic.
