Hello Everyone, I just got this 1878-S Morgan Dollar in the other day. I can't quite put my finger on it but something seems to be different here. 'Might be a Vam 10 or 11? The motto looks raised. Here are some pictures.
Yes, but a couple different pictures are needed from those you supplied. One of the key diagnostics for 78-S is hand-engraving of extra feathers under the eagle's right (viewer's left) wing, between the wing and the leg. If you can post a picture of this similar in quality to that of the mint mark, we could probably help you out, or at least ask for more pictures.
