I have a 1938s jefferson nickel that appears to have an omm. Does anyone have any information to support this. Thanks.

Thanks Billy, I've had this coin for probably 25+ years and I havent made much of an effort to check into it. I came across it again today while piddling in a sleeve of jeffersons i have. Looks like the mint mark is smeared but the adjacent monticello and the rim of the coin are not damaged to support that thought. IMG_2148.JPG

Thanks Mike, Its tough to get a decent photo of this mint mark . Im going to add 1 more here. I been working to photo it as best as possible. It looks like an S on the bottom of the stack with just my coin loupe. This is a little better view of it. Thanks again for your input. I appreciate all the support today!! IMG_2153.JPG

    That looks like an S.
If the coin is circulated, then it's prob just filled in and not doubled.
Although a clearer photo could help.

Actually, it's really not hard to get a decent photo of that mintmark. It's because the equipment you are using is not suited for this type of photography. For example, the image below was taken using a stereomicroscope with optical zoom capability.

Unfortunately, this type of equipment is more expensive. This RPM is only slightly larger than the mintmark on your coin. (By the way, I think your image could be an RPM, not an OMM, but I'm just guessing based on those images.)

    Looks like a damaged/sliced "S" on the 38-S nickel.

I have another digital camera i'll try and see if the resolution is any better (but i doubt it). If i cant get any better results on the pics i may just put this one back away for another rainy day.

An unsolved mystery holds more suspense than closure of the piece being completely insignificant!! And i am fine with that...
