So this penny is black in color... Assuming this is a patina issue... Its been locked away for a few years at least. Sorry about the double picture.
All PMD Post Mint Damage The Copper Plating was exposed and the inner Zinc is rotting. Only worth 1 Cent
Actually your pictures are quite good. Some more information, in 1982 the Lincoln Cent was changed from a 95% copper/5% zinc and tin to a copper plated zinc planchet. The copper is so thin that even a slight damage (either during minting or as post-minting-damage or PMD) causes the zinc to be exposed and since it is such a reactive metal, the decomposition that follows is called zinc rot. If you don't have "A Guide Book Of United States Coins" (the red book) by Yeoman, you should invest in a copy. Older used books are fine, since the prices are not current even for current years, but the information is tremendous.
Thank you. I owe it all to the camera. Haha. How about this coin he's incognito or camo'd up... How does this happen? Die issues?
Nice pictures. Those zinc-based cents seem to be the bane of a lot of collectors. The amazing self-destructing coin!
