Demetrios Poliorketes 294 – 288 BC, King of Macedon, issued this tetradrachm showing a small Nike on the prow and a full length Poseidon. It also comes in AE13 which is below.

Question: This reverse of the Indo-Scythian Azes (Taxila mint?) is usually called Poseidon. Is it or is there a local deity that carries a trident?

Poseidon was very much a part of the Scythian pantheon - according to Herodotus he was called Thagimasidas (Θαγιμασάδας).

I wanted to be the one who posted an Azes with Poseidon reverse but Doug beat me too it.

Hmm...well here's mine all the same:

    Azes I/II, Indo-Scythians, BC 57-12/AD 5-35
    AR, tetradrachm, 8.76h, 24.5mm;1h
Obv.: ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΝ ΜΕΓΑΞΟΥ; Great king on horseback right, bow on back, right arm raised holding (?), whip in left, monogram of Karosthi letter left field
Rev.:Karosthi legend; Poseidon standing right holding trident and extending right hand, monogram left, Karosthi letter right (?)

I kind of want to buy the references for these coins because the fascinate me and I would love to learn more about the culture they came from; I'm not terribly interested in a catalog number.
