    five peseta from port.

    I think, anyway - I have a very similar coin in the 2 1/2 denomination.

    rather, escudo - how many time do I have to edit this post? forget I said anything.

    Yes, 5 escudos from Portugal. Silver (Ag 650), I think. The coin shows a 16c vessel, similar to what Vasco da Gama used.

    KM#581, 1948 mintage 2,017,999. 7g of .650 silver, ASW .1463. 2005 Krause says $1.50 F/$2.50 VF/$4 EF/$9 Unc/$12 BU.

    Thanks guys!I had no Idea what it was,my mother in-law gave it to me along with a bunch of wheaties that got me started down the coin trail!
