  1. Peter II of Portugal coin. 6 Vintents.

Completely ignored at auction with a low estimate makes me think this is a fake.

Research indicates the Obverse and Reverse do not match up making it a shoddy fake, however, it got me thinking about mule coins...

The P's in each quadrant of the cross belongs to the Porto Mint. However the Coat of Arms on the Porto coin are dated, whereas this coin is not dated, like the Lisbon Mint.

    Thoughts please?

My concern is the crosses where a date should be are not the same size, the middle one being noticed larger. Also between VINCES and IN the little ornamentation so not match either.

  4. Yes you are right, the crosses in the center near the coat of arms are too large. and Vinces does also look suspect now you say it. Good spot!

    Conclusively a fake then?

I'm no expert so I couldn't definitively say, but likely unless there is another similar issue. Just too much off about it to me.
