Just got this back from NGC, it's pretty cool to have the only one graded. They didn't have a column for VAM 2D until a few days ago, when they updated it with this one. IMG_4139.JPG IMG_4140.JPG IMG_4141.JPG IMG_4142.JPG

    Nice! Tough variety, too.

Nice coin. Was just looking on VAMworld.com to find out the attributes of this particular VAM. Very interesting. Is the ear mark from bag damage or possible weak strike ?
They also have a listing of 2 for NGC, one in MS-64 and one in MS-65. Just saying!

Those are likely coins in unattributed slabs. It's nice to see NGC finally recognizing a variety which was first designated 7 years ago, and has been a List coin since then. PCGS still doesn't. :)

PCGS is much much too busy with First Strikes and Signatures (have you looked at all the "varieties" for the 2014 Baseball HoF coin? ... there's like 50 different holders for that thing)....

I don't claim to know alot about slabbed coins. I am trying to learn somethings about them. So when I was looking on VAMworld it stated that VAM 2D is
not attributed by PCGS but they slabbed one in MS-64. ANACS lists none.
NGC has 2 listed. Is that why the OP's coin is numbered 2710000-003 ???

If it's recorded at VAMworld but the TPG doesn't attribute it, as I said above, it's in an unattributed slab. NGC's numbering system is the (unique) invoice number followed by the coins on the invoice in numerical order; the number means that was the third coin listed on Invoice #2710000.

It was a bonus to get a nice even submission number.

There are obviously others out there, how else would they be able to VAM it! I was just saying it was cool that this is the first one that NGC attributed. If you go to the NGC census it will just show this coin in its population (until others pay for the attribution). But they are very rare.

Lovely.......and the original mint holder is most important. Piece of history and an marvelous piece of cake.......:)

It is scarce, spectacular, and everything you'd want a VAM to be.

There are currently 5 of these in the SSDC registry, one 63, three 64s, one 65. The 63 is graded by ANACS and attributed on the strap (there's a picture). I assume the others aren't attributed on their respective holders (2 NGC, 2 PCGS).

This answers my unasked question of whether it's considered good manners to quote Census numbers from there. :)

Nice coin-- good example of uncommon variety. As I have oft times said, you did well to keep it in the original GSA, and get it NGC ribboned. Nice acquisition, and really nice looking reverse. Obverse has the usual GSA chatter, but great luster. Like it a lot!
