Is anyone else experiencing poor quality in recent US Mint coins? I've had to send back two of the recent Standing Liberty gold centennial quarters due to poor quality, and I'm about to send back a National Parks 100th anniversary set because the silver dollar has a glaring gouge in it. Is this the new normal for the mint, or has my luck just been bad? The first gold coin had a deep gouge in the eagle's wing on the reverse, and the second has a small round puncture in the field of the obverse.
No, it's not your bad luck. Join the crowd. It's been happening for years, especially Philly! Can you post an pictures? Here's a few of my better ones:
I ran into the same thing with the puncture in the field of the Gold 2016 Standing Liberty Quarter, (shall we insist they make it a variety? I'd LOL that if it weren't such a shame) Bought a couple of JFK Coin & Chronicles sets rim ding on one which I believe to have been someone else's return perhaps because the exterior sleeve had a tear in it...aargh, and the Gold Mercury Dimes weren't great either...wound up buying a sp70 elsewhere on the Mercs. Sent 2nd Standing Lib Qtr for grading but not holding my breath... Quality left the building it would seem and this is on "Better" Collector Coins. The everyday run of the mill MS coins are so badly dinged up I'm ashamed to buy and send to my Grandkids, again aaargh! Hope our friends going to Philly for Mint feedback forum will see to it something is said about same...cuz this really is disheartning.
