Just won this lifetime portrait of one of my (Everybody's) favorite generals, Gnaeus Pompeius: Better known as Pompey the great! The real gobsmacker is that, much like Ptolemy XIV, I faced almost no opposition when he washed up on my shores... for 10 GBPs Cilicia, Soli-Pompeiopolis. Pompey the Great. 1st century B.C. Æ (19 mm, 7.20 g, 12 h). Bare head of Pompey right / [ΠΟΜΠΗΙΟ]ΠΟΛЄΤΩΝ, Nike advancing right, holding wreath and palm; in right field, ΔΙ monogram. Cf. SNG BN 1213-7 (control); cf. SNG Levante 880-2 (same). Dark patina. Very fine. With any image of Pompey you have to ask, "How on points his hair??" In my, for the price of a coke, fries and a burger, example, I gotta say, pretty on point! Here's the, way before blow dryers and hair gel, original style all the Roman's tried to emulate (even if he was said to have lifted the style from the original great one, Alexander III): And it certainly is an upgrade to my more expensive (obviously) non lifetime version made by his son: Sextus Pompey Ӕ As. Spain or Sicily, 45 BC. Laureate head of Janus, with the features of Cn. Pompeius Magnus; [MGN] above / Prow right; [PIVS] above, IMP below. Crawford 479/1; CPP I 671. 19.23g, 28mm, Fine. Ex-Savoca I cannot forgive this transgression against one of the greatest military commanders, and self advertisers, of all time. I demand compensation in postings of other coins of Pompey, his son, stone cold deals that you found others sleeping on or whatever cuts off you enemies head and hands it to you on a silver platter!
LOL, I LOVE that Quote. Nice Hairdo. Very distinctive, yet a very threatening and powerful man! Great coin captures!!! I think we need to ensure @DonnaML knows ALL about that quote!!! Did I joke? No. Did I summon you for a cool Quote? Yes. Some of the best jokes I heard were from my Lawyer Teams. I never repeated them.
..o WOW Ryro!.....i've fantastized about a coin of Pompey ...portrait at that...cause as far as i knew...there were NONE....and now....wanna sell it?.......(JK)...very kool bro!...i love it!
Much obliged! Julius Caesar was said to be the first living Roman whoms vanity superceded the respect for his, mos maiorum, respect for those who came before. And he was the first Roman to have his portrait portrayed on coin while he was still alive... in Rome. Across Roman republic history lifetime portraits appear on coins of Scipio Africanus, Pomps, among others... but always in the provinces.

Admittedly, I wish it were one of the coins from Rome he minted. But bargain buyers can't be too choosy. When I came across it and saw what some in similar condition had sold for at the big auction houses, CNG, I thought for sure I would be blown out of the water. When the fast paced bidding simply stopped at 10. I simply couldn't believe it. Here's an actual picture of me all day yesterday after that win:
