Just picked up this "unsold" lot from Gorny&Mosch Auction.

    Pommern/ Herzogtum
AV Dukat 1631 Koslin Mint (finest known of 5 exs)
Bogilaus XIV Duke of Pommern 1620-37

Note: After the Duke died/ title passed over to Swedish Rulers. Thus Queen Christina took over in 1654.

Kunker sold a specialized Pommern Coll. the 1631 was missing/ coin sold in Hohn Auction in 2016 for 4000 Euros. Please add your Pommern coins... 01340Q00.jpg

    Beautiful dukat, panzerman!

I have just one Pommern/Pomeranian coin, this three-pfenninge dated 1776.

So is Pommern the same as Pomerania? Many years ago (ca. 2001) I picked up a Pomeranian taler (1633) which I've kept in my Polish collection (being of Polish ancestry). Looks like the same dude as is on your ducat from the nose & mustache.

Ex: Stack's. They sold the coin as MS, (no slabbing of world back then) with which I of course agree.

Yes/ Pommern is the correct German way. Its amazing how much Bogislaus looked like Swedish King Gustavus Adolphus/ both lived in same period of the Thirty Years Wars/ aa2a972aa896a72a4630e7c6a619c60a.png

Not being an expert in Central European history but didn't Poland keep out of the 30 Years War? I shall run that pix you sent thru an on-line OCR program and see what it translates to. Don't have great hopes tho.

Actually I believe that the region of Poland my ancestors came from is Polmerania; which is another reason I bought the taler. I think it was the 3rd taler I've ever owned after a Maria Theresa & a common 1699 Austrian Hogmouth (mint state tho).

Right now economics and the fantastical price of nice coins are basically preventing me from buying anything. I can't even find any 40% silver half-dollars at the bank like I used to.

You are so right, about the crazy coin market.....I hate it. I guess, collectors are going to pay insane prices for high quality material.

As mentioned elsewhere I tried to buy my 1st Wildman taler. I bid around $1300 but it went for over $1,800 out of Europe. Then I bid on a common Karl Goetz bronze medal with a small corrosion spot. Typical PR for the piece was $345 in 2019. I needed it for a display I'm making on prejudice. But it ended up going for $1,100. which is insane.

Also I used to collect ancients, but that field's even worse.

I'm not bidding up to these numbers because I believe in the long term prices will fall. But it could be very long term.

I haven't been able to add many to my collection either. Even relatively common ones are going for double what they were a few years ago.

I think/ unfortunately.....prices will only keep going up. Reasons?
1/ world/ ancients (high quality) coins are few and far between) The supply will never satisfy the demand.
Just compare overpriced US market/ the 1857-S Double Eagles from the SS-CA salvage operations are fetching 6K-12K for MS examples/ there are 1000s
A Braunschweig-Blankenburg AV "Wildman" Quarter Dukat 1717 (less then 10 known) go for 2K in EF-MS.
2/ the market has been hot now for past 100 years
3/ the demand for good material will only escalate

Now/ there still are some deals/ obscure auctions have some gems that go for bargain bids. Even, like my Pommern "unsold " lot at 4K/ same coin in Heritage/ CNG would have gone for double.
