When a coin leaves the mint and arrives at a bank in 2018....what grade would you guess that coin to be? Comment why you voted for that grade...
Impossible to tell with the information given. It depends on what happens to the coin on the way to the bank.
I guess it would greatly depend if its home was the ender on a roll with a mean crimper (and a good number of other factors as well)!
Really no way of telling. They are dumped into tubs, then bagged and then carried around by fork lifts. They get a lot of bouncing around before they leave.
I think what you are really trying to ask is, "What is an average Uncirculated Coin probably going to grade?" I'm going to take this from the perspective of you, the consumer - you've either bought rolls or bags, and you're sorting through them. On average, I think that modern coins are probably in the 65-ish range. That has been my experience opening rolls of coins I buy at the bank. A 66 is a nice one out of the roll, I've seen very few 67's come out of rolls.
I think this is pretty accurate, I would just add that there's usually a fair bit of 63s sprinkled in as well especially on some of the larger sized coins.
@baseball21 makes a very good point here. The larger the coin, typically the lower the average grade. You can pick out some "reedonculous" dimes, if that's your thing. They GREATLY improved the dime master hub a few years back.
