Nice piece, well designed. But I wonder that the Poles would go along with commemorating Stalin's little gift to Poland? When I was in Warsaw a few years ago it was very apparent - it really still does dominate the skyline and some people say it is an eyesore and a reminder of communism.

Well, I already told you my opinion about the series elsewhere, and about this design in particular. In Warsaw there are lots of other (more recent) high rises, so this "palace" is not quite so dominating any more - but I would not really want to see it on a circulation coin. If people in Poland think differently about it, however, fine with me ...

I think it is a very attractive design on the coin...but I would imagine the citizens of Poland would feel the same way as the previous posters. I get the feeling from what I have read about it, this building is somewhat of an uneasy reminder of the Soviet days. That being said, I think it is a very attractively designed coin which depicts one of the many interesting structures I hope to one day visit.

Actually when I was in Warsaw it was one of the few "old" buildings around. Warsaw can be quaint, and still have cobblestone streets, but it is all post war since it was flattened during 1939-1945. I was struck how modern and clean everything was. It is actually a very nice city to visit given it's size, the people there are very friendly and it has lots to see. I would recommend visiting there very much.

Of all the places I have seen in Germany, I have never been to Berlin and would love to go sometime.

BTW Chrisild, I still have that big picture postcard of D-town in my office.

Hey, that is neat. :) Did you know that Warsaw is the twin city of both Berlin and Düsseldorf? Oh well, with those bigger cities such partnerships do not mean much in everyday life. By the way, the link in the initial message points at a few other Polish euro coin designs. The ones where the country name is just "Polska" are the most recent ones, I think, and designed as a series ...
