cent shield error die cracks - chips. if you're going through your pocket change you're gonna come across some of the shield errors they are quite common you'll find at least two of three of these every couple roles, there are collectors that will not even bother with these coins and they'll tell you that the penny is only worth face value which they are totally right (but) this is only an example on my part this morning I was having breakfast with a friend and I informed him that I had five pennies with die cracks and chips I told him I wanted 50¢ for the pennies he looked at me and laughed and after he stopped laughing I said you don't have to look for them you can take them put right in your personal registry and if you want photos I can arrange that for a price a friend's price. I didn't get my 50¢ he'd got me down to 25¢ and he bought me breakfast, so for a penny that's only worth a penny I made out pretty good this morning. Usually when these common pennies are so plentiful I usually take what I need for my personal registry and discard the rest but I was thinking since I have such a good collection of them why not put up a good assortment if your friends have not already collected them and sell them to your friends even if you only get 2¢ for one penny is not a bad deal. So please enjoy the photos

That die crack on top of the shield is so common it has lead me to believe it is on the galvano. I think you owe the guy breakfast everyday next week.

I'd guess that, in time, your friends will ignore your breakdown on the side of the road.

They tend to be quite common from the used to death Philly dies but are harder to find on the Denver cents. I got lucky last night as one roll yielded 3 die cracks, nice ones, 6 wheat cents and 2 Canadian cents.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

Well, if your friend wants to pay 25x what the coin is worth, I guess that's his choice.

I'll ignore the price of breakfast, and call that a meal between "friends."

I'd feel bad about ripping him off.. but that's just me.

You're absolutely right that was breakfast between friends as friends I usually give him coins like this for his collection at no charge because we are friends but just for kicks this once I told hem I had some for sale like I said he laughed when I said 50¢ and we started negotiating' he works anywhere from 5 to 6 days a week and doesn't have the time to go through coins like I do he felt 25¢ was a reasonable price when all he has to do is add them to his collection he happens to light die cracks and chips, he knows I would've gone down to about 10¢ isn't that what coin collecting it's about having good ol' fun.:woot:

Have you noticed on the P's on the right side of the upper shield I have found hardly any cracks, an out of 1500 pennies I only found two small chips on the right side of the upper shield I guess it will be the rim of the shield? Just an interesting observation and thank you for your reply

Yes, mostly on the top left, seems to be a specific stress area there but no idea why. Also check at the O in One, there tend to be cracks there, they are not bold but cracks nonetheless.

So far out of 2000 I haven't found any cracks on the one's that's in the Philadelphia's and only have found five examples of chips in the right upper quadrant of the shield on the shield rim thanks for the advice I will keep a look out on the one for cracks that would be a nice addition to my collection

I still haven't found a crack in the O but I guess I'll have to do with a chip on the end of the N and another one with a crack from the ram up to the T and out the top of the t
