Hi everyone, Does anyone have any information about PNC's (Philatelic & Numismatic Covers) or FDC's (First Day Covers)? Or information about the companies that made them Nuphil Associates Ltd. of Christchurch, New Zealand HUTT COMMEMORATIVES LTD New Zealand Or if anyone knows of any books or catalogs about which countries they were made for and the years? Thanks for any help on this
I've come across some of those at combined coin and stamp auctions, but generally, I think they have more of a following among the stamp collectors than the numismatists. In my experience, there isn't much overlap in the two groups (although there is some affinity). Sorry!
Agreed, coin collectors tend to not care much about "first day" issues - after all you don't stamp (postmark) coins. But apparently there are quite a few collectors of such products. In Germany for example every collector coin issued has a corresponding stamp, and the Philatelic Service (not the Numismatic Office ...) sells such Numisbrief or Numisblatt products. The Dutch Mint, by the way, actually sells First Day covers ... of just coins. They are called Eerste Dag Uitgifte and come as a limited edition. Usually each coin is in a numbered card. And yes, I realize that all this is not very helpful when it comes to products from New Zealand. Christian
If you are still looking for info on PNCs there is a website at 121.223.202.9/pa-inc in Australia that shows photos of items from Hutt, Nuphil, 99 Company, Jonal and others. As far as I know they are not for sale but it is a good place to look at them.
Hutt does make Medals and Coins. But those are Hutt River Province. In the late 60's and early 70's there was a Hutt Commemoratives company from. Lower Hutt. New Zealand and they produced Philatelic Numismatic Combination Covers.
I will post info on a good reference book after I am back home. I covers PNCs from the first issued in 1964 to 1985.
