Well it's not road kill, the rim would have issues and I think there would be a great deal more of marks. I was thinking if not an error probably a corrosive agent that removed a layer and maybe caused the pitting. Thought I should ask to be safe than sorry ty for reply.
It boils down to guessing what caused the damage. There is no way to know but it's still just damage.
