Hey guys I have a coin and a question. There appears to be several parallel dark recessed lines on the stars, denticles and in the fields of this morgan.. They are all concentrated in one small area though and just on one side, rest of coin looks good.. So the question is:what in the heck is this? Planchet issue? Roller marks? Or something more sinister? CAM01681.jpg CAM01682.jpg CAM01683.jpg CAM01684.jpg CAM01687.jpg 2015-03-07-10-46-26.jpg
1 other quick note: these are NOT visible to the naked eye OR under LESS than10x magnification.. I was gonna submit this coin but I may just flip raw for a quick profit..

What I'm seeing is dirt or toning not pmd. I've have had and still do have with the same type gunk on them. Your coin looks natural as for the surfaces.
I would grade it and have no worries about it being baged.
One question as I just took a second look is it the holder that makes it seem to have a flat spot? Like it was dropped on that edge?

Yea its the holder... Paddy youve been around the block, lets pretend that this isnt toning (i dont think it is) what else could possibly cause such a thing?? A wire brush maybe?? The lines literally look like someone carved them with a knife! Can roller marks produce this look?? The ones ive seen have been light in color(these are dark)and are usually on the cheek

If it takes 10x to see it, and it's next to the rim, I wouldn't worry about it.

Looks like lines that were in the planchet when the coin was struck. Were it something sinister (by which I assume you mean nasty damage), you'd see some damage in the fields as well. I'd say no big deal on what looks to be a pretty nice coin.

You are right... heres how i see it... i paid $50 for the coin, im gonna try to unload it for $200 tommorow @ a show(ms64=$350)..... if i cant get that out of it i will submit and hope for a 64+ or 65... the gtg consensus here was 65 but im not so sure especially w said marks...

I second all of this. I'd keep it if it were my coin. :)
