    Here I have 3 1951-D Jefferson nickel's from my collection. Sometimes when purchasing coins I fail to realize what I already have. In this case I bought 3 not knowing I had already purchased nice ones. [IMG] At any rate here they are and I was hoping you all could let me know which one ya find more attractive. Not necessarily the highest graded or the one in the best condition, just the one you find most attractive for what ever reason. Just say image 1-2 or 3... Thanks for looking....DEX....Just a note that coin #3 has been graded MS-67 by NGC....

    In this order:

    #3, #2, and #1. #3 Best in Show.

    The first two look artificially toned or photoshopped (by raising the color saturation level.) Just my opinion. #3 is a great coin...would be happy to own it. The first two I would throw on eBay and not look back.

    Trust me when I say the images are not saturated nor photoshopped. The color? That's always a hot topic now isn't it!! These coins look very close to in hand as I can get. Thank you and all for your opinions. None of these coins cost much and I am starting to enjoy the change from Buffalo nickel's to these Jefferson's. Still, I love the Buffs MUCH more than I could these Jeffs!!

    Yes...color is definitely a fun topic...as well as "conservation." lol....

    (BTW, just in case, I wasn't insinuating that they had been AT - just that it's not my personal cup o' tea. I didn't think you'd taken it that way, but just thought I'd state the obvious.)

    I posted a while back about a Botanic Garden Commemorative Silver $1 that NGC said was AT...since I took it out of the OGP and submitted it myself, I know it's not AT...so I never try to assume how a coin got to where it is today.

    Good Jeffersons are hard to find...and that last one is a beaut!

    I like the first one the best, but if I were putting one in my collection, it would be number three simply because it matches the look of the rest of my set. All of them are pretty nice though.

    I'm not swayed as much as some with toning. For my money #3 , hands down.

    I like them all, but #3 wins the day! After that, I would say #1 and then #2. To be fair, I'm sure if I looked at them again later on tonight, that order would change based on my mood.

    I like the obverse color of coin #2, but the hit on the reverse...

    I always have trouble evaluating and comparing coins with huge photos like that so I decided to shrink them down a little.

    I don't judge a coin by just one element of grading. I think that most would agree that #1 has the best color and the worst strike. Number 2 has good color and decent strike but appears to have the roughest surfaces and luster. Number 3 has the best overall strike and certainly the best luster but the toning is much more common.

    I pick coin number 1 since we are talking strictly about which coin has the most eye appeal. IMO, the inferior strike does not detract that much from the appearance of the coin.

    BTW Joe, you should just add a poll to the thread so everyone can see which coin wins.

    #3
    edit for reason: from photos, #3 strong strike and a handsome coin & I'm always a bit leery of more colourful toned examples when I can't examine them in hand;
