What makes you think it is dipped? This guy seems to have pretty positive feedback, and I can see reflections in the coin, which I believe makes it at least PL.

As I have said before I'm no expert on cleaning but the photo doesn't looked like a dipped coin to me with the mirror like finish. I think it looks like a good deal as I would suggest MS-64 at least. Nice coin.

I can't comment on the DMPL from these photo's BUT

using the grading rules as I've come to understand them, I think this is an MS 65. Its an O and the hair is nearly perfectly struck and the breast full and in complete bloom. The backs seem clear with nothing I can spot. It seems to have something on the cheek of the obverse preventing higher state.

It that is a nick on the obverse rim, it moght be a little less.

It's a good looking coin; but that's a heck of a bet to make to buy a coin like this sight-unseen from Ebay since the valuation rises and falls so dramatically depending on small variations in condition.

Buying this sort of merchandise from Ebay is like running through a dynamite factory with a lit match. Even if you survive it's a bad idea. [my opinion only]

He does offer a return policy, and has 100% positive feedback, so I felt comfortable buying from him.

IMO, it looks to be at least a firm 64. The strike is great for an 'O' but the dentils do look a little mushy on the top of the obverse, and that little rim ding at about 8 o'clock concerns me a tad. Fields on the obverse look nice, but hard to offer an opinion on the reverse fields as the photo looks a tad grainy on my computer...could just be my monitor though. Maybe that's why the warning of a possible dip has come up...as that's a classic sign. Allbeit one that cannot be truly evaluated until it is in-hand.

One thing that I'd like to know is where he's getting his value info...IMO, this is quite asteep price to pay for this coin, but if it's one that you're comfortable with, ultimately that's all that matters.

Good luck, I hope it's a stunner...and please post pics when it arrives.

Regardless of what the coin grades, I would not in a thousand years spend that much money on a raw Morgan from ebay even if the seller had a feedback of 110%.

But that is a choice that each must make for himself.

    Hey Zane
It seems like you are into the higher grade/higher dollar coins right now...I would suggest one thing...buy them slabbed.
Sure...they might cost a little bit more...but the chaces are of someone selling a good coins raw in that kind of grade...is slim.
Most dealers/collectors know how to make more money on coins....that would be like selling a 1909-S VDB raw---how many collectors are going to trust that?...not many.
Also buying them slabbed gives you a head start..if for some reason you need to sell them soon and need money you have a better chance of getting your money back if they are slabbed than raw.
Dealers and collectors tend to give more for slabbed coins that raw in any case--I don't think that is right...but we are living in a time when its going on.

I'll be sure and let you know. I bet they will make me sign for it, which shouldn't be a problem, as I'm a college student with 3 roommates, so someone is here pretty much any time of the day.

But here is the thing. In the Slab, you don't have the pleasure of making sure the $5000 $20 gold peice isn't imortalize forever with your individual thumb print.

    OR EVEN BETTER!
we can get GDJMSP thump print!

And then after you make it yours forever with your thumb print...it goes from $5000 to $2500 or less :D :D

    OK

that because they really don't apreceate you. But that will change. And rememeber: Never trust anyone over 30, especially if they have an ALIAS like GDJMSP!

I've been trying to get an aconym for this for WEEKS and come up blank.

What the heck does GDJMSP stand for?

I normally do buy slabbed coins, but I have been willing to gamble a little bit recently. I bought an 1884-s morgan in a really old PCI holder, and it graded a 63 in a pcgs holder. Needless to say, I made several thousand on that one : ). I paid 2200 for it in the PCI holder : )
