It's understandable that we shouldn't discuss ANY rare coin auction house policies while legal action is pending against one of them. However, we were having a respectful, reasoned discussion on rare coin auctions in general and would like to restart the thread at whatever point CT administrators deem appropriate. Please let us know if/when the discussion of this topic is permissible...
Not in the near future, I'll wager... http://www.cointalk.com/t72013/ Any attempts to start additional threads on the subject will also be removed. Like it or not, that's how it will be.
Man the door got slamed tight on that one, but only after a spirited discussion. My question is why wasn't the thread shut down sooner?
Discussions had drifted away from activities of a particular auction house and centered more on rare coin auctions in general. Doug last commented that "dealers" relied on these auctions as their primary source of inventory. I've known a number of dealers over the years and none of them relied on these auctions as their primary source of inventory. I just wanted to follow up on that...in a generic sense. If this discussion is "inappropriate", I would respectively request that Doug reopen the discussion at the appropriate time...or let us know when that time is.Presently, it appears that CT has some vested interest to see these discussions ended and the reasons haven't been clearly explained. Was this really the case? Was anyone trying to smear ANYONE's good name? What possible "legal" ramifications could there be over a reasoned discussion of auction house practices (in general)?I'm not trying to start a new thread, I'm just asking for some clarification. Mr. Davis...your thoughts?
I hear ya. I was following/reading the whole thread while it was open as well as Doug's comments for closing the topic. There's nothing wrong with CT wanting to cover their backsides from any backlash that such a topic might cause, especially if legally requested to put a lid on it. However, the more the case is covered in the media, blogs or other forums people will keep coming up with new threads and posts here regarding developments on the case and probably continue to do so long after it's been 'settled' and case closed. Folks who feel strongly about an issue tend to maintain and express personal opinions to the contrary even after cases are settled no matter their source of facts or their take on definitions, accusations, etc.
There is something that apparently some of you still don't understand - there is no case. There is no suit, there is no anything. It was thrown out of court 9 months ago. Now I will reiterate one more time. The discussion of the matter is closed. yakpoo - if you want to start another thread and discuss where dealers get their inventory - have at it. That has nothing to do with this.
