It doesn't look "off" to me. It looks ike a wonderful piece of rare Tudor gold in a possibly Victorian(?) era jewelry mount! But you'll want expert confirmation on that. While it looks fine to me as a piece of 16th century hammered gold in general terms, I know next to nothing about the type. Hi, @GlobeCoins. It is good to see you here. Click the "Eclectic Box" link in my signature line and see if you can recognize the coin I bought off your website.
PS- 40 mm would be more in the range of a sovereign, I think, but I don't know of any with that design- the sovereigns seem to have the king seated on a throne. @panzerman- do you know, or can you steer @GlobeCoins towards someone else who will know? This sort of material is way out of my league, so I have zero experience here. I've never even owned Edward VI in silver, let alone gold.
It is a Half Sovereign ND Tower Mint struck 1549/50 Edward VI 1547-53 ex: Law coll. Stack's/Bowers This coin was graded VF and realized $5000US
Thanks, @panzerman- I knew you were more likely to have some knowledge of this sort of thing. That jewelry setting looks as though it could be worth some $$$ in its own right! Quite an amazing piece.
