Hello there, can I just state that I don't collect coins and I have no knowledge whatsoever of them. I just need your help in identifying this coin... well, I say coin but it's more like a medallion. I know it's not worth anything. It has writing on it in possibly Greek as my first suspicion, might be Latin I'm unsure. I just found it in a forest in England and would like an idea what it says. Go easy, I'm a complete newb on this subject. Thanks, Dylan.
It's definitely Greek to me. Looks like it might have been a zipper pull or a tag on a piece of luggage.
It looks like it could be a medallion, or maybe key chain fob, from the Rompolas wine festival held in Kefallonia, Greece. The top part seems to translate as "Cooperative Producer" while the bottom part says "Rompolas Kefallonia"
oh interesting, thanks for what you have found out so far guys, I understand this is not what you're used to looking at.
OK, let's walk through this Entering the Greek legends ΣΥΝΕΤΑΙΡΙΣΜΟΣ ΠΑΡΑΓΩΓΩΝ (top) and ΡΟΜΠΟΛΑΣ ΚΕΦΑΛΟΝΙΑΣ (bottom) into Google Translation gives translations of "Cooperative Producer" and "Rompolas Kefalonia" A Google search of Rompolas Kefalonia reveals that there is a wine festival called Rompolas held in Kefallonia, Greece. This would fit with the heads side of the medallion showing what appears to be a Greek farmer with a basket of grapes. The loop at the top of the medallion indicates it could be a key chain fob. However, another explanation may be that it is a medallion that is hung around the necks of bottles of wine at the festival that are produced by members of that cooperative. The numismatic value of this piece is 0. It could have some value as a medallion, but you would probably have to try to reach collectors of such materials, probably through something like a European site for medal collectors.
Thanks, sorry for posting another one it has been answered thouroughly now; cheers guys. I can't figure out how to delete the other thread either -_-
