I'm not an ancients collector and don't want to start. But I bought these coins once when I thought I might. I'm just looking to sell them now but I was hoping I could identify them first to make selling them more successful. Can anyone tell me what they are?
for the first one : Licinius I AE Follis. Cyzicus mint , AD 317-320. IMP LICINIVS AVG, laureate draped bust left holding mappa, orb and sceptre / IOVI CONSERVATORI AVGG, Jupiter standing left, holding Victory on a globe and sceptre, wreath left, A right. Mintmark SMK.
for the second coin I will try with : Valentinian I, AE3, Siscia. AD 367-375. DN VALENTINI-ANVS PF AVG, pearl diademed, draped, cuirassed bust right / GLORIA RO-MANORVM, Emperor in military dress, walking right, head left, holding labarum, dragging captive behind him. Left field: S. Right field: star over ?. Mintmark: ?SI?
FYI, both coins are common, in Meh condition. (Yes, "Meh" is a legitimate condition grade for ancients.) I doubt that you would receive more than a couple dollars for either of them. Considering that they are about over 1,600 years old, are you sure you want to sell them?
S and * over either F or P, both are common issues, though yours looks like F to me. Mint mark is ASISC structure but could start with A, B or gamma. SC
