I posted yesterday and the picture service does not work any more so I had to find another. I can't zoom any closer. but I think they are really nice. here is the post from yesterday

I just received this today, I am very happy with the condition, However there seems to be what looks like some streaking on the reverse. In nice bright light there are no streaks, I wonder if this is a "shadow effect" from poor lighting or reflections off of the holder.
I am also curious as to the grade. I would guess ms 65. but I was looking for feedback.. here are the links, I hope they work (first time posting pics).

and here is the new link.....

I just found out that if you click on "view slideshow" at the top of the page the pictures become really huge.

    Thanks for the help :D

    Hi,

I would say, based on the images, that most are AU sliders, that have been improperly dipped, resulting in the streaked surfaces.

    Nice set!
I wouldn't mind having another in that good of condition.

Sorry grovey, but it is all but impossible to grade the coins based on those pics. If you can get better closeups of the individual coins I'd be happy to offer an opinion.

You might want to try removing one side of the holder for the pics. That will also let you see if the streaks are on the coins - but I suspect they are.

I got to see the pictures last night in the other thread, and it was much easier to give you a grading opinion because they were larger. From my own experience, nickels also don't seem to be very photogenic. We have had more problems photographing nickels than any other type, especially if they're circulated. Even though it would take some time, individual closeups of the coins would be a tremendous help.

The saga of the war nickles continues...

I took the holder off and again went under a clean bright light. no streaks. under low light you can see them.... I don't know what this is.. could it be any kind of toning ??. I'm not sure if I am annoyed or what to feel.

It took me many many years to start this again... I originally started my collection at 7 yrs old. with Lincolns. went to Kennedys...some rosies..(not many) a few very nice mercurys....some large cents a few trade dollars a few standing wash quarters a few barbers (quarters, halves). some paper silver gold certificates (mostly,1 and 5's). 2 large note 5's a hawaiian 20 wwll. and a few seated dimes, and variety of flying eagle. pennies, some buffalos....and the mint sets from 1957 to 1976...
I went to coin auctions, and when I was 15 I worked part time in a gun and coin shop. I made a deal with the owner to pay me 1/2 in cash and 1/2 in coins. this wasn't a high end collection but it was affordable and enjoyable.

I got married in 1984... had a child money was tight..so I thought I would sell some coins. Anyway I had called my mother and asked her to send me a few so I can help with the money issue as she was holding the albums for me. I told her what I wanted and she said "I don't see them" only pennies. I figured she didn't know what she was looking at and I was coming down for a visit anyway.

After arriving I asked her for the albums.. i found them and she was right..only pennies...THE REST WAS GONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We think it was my brother who had and still has some compulsive issues. needless to say this was heartbreaking and everytime I wanted to start over I just couldn't.. I was so disgusted I sold the pennies for $200.00 and that was that.

So here I sit with these war nickles and wondering if I was taken again..or if this is worth persuing again..I finally gave in to start collecting again...and i am not sure if I am going to continue if these are not right.

sorry to bend your ear..It just brought up alot of stufff

    Thanks for listening :(

    Grovey,
Even if you didn't get what you expected, please don't let that turn you off to re-entering the hobby. There is so much more available now than there used to be. There are forums and clubs that operate on the internet so that communication between collectors is so much easier than it used to be. There are lots of specialized collectors with loads of knowledge and very interesting coins and stories to share. To cut yourself off from all this because of one purchase would be so sad.

Internet purchases can be risky. But, let me ask you this, regardless of what opinions you get from the forum members, do you like the coins? That is always the most important test. I know many people who buy what appeals to them and the $ value doesn't matter because there is an intrinsic value for the collector. It seems to me that the set you bought is very attractive in a nice presentation and would be a nice start to a new collection. Yes, maybe you got a little burned on the price, but you learned a valuable lesson and it is still a very attractive set.

Are Jeffersons what you want to begin collecting now, or did this set just catch your eye? There are so many coins with beautiful artwork, so many different series, loads of choices if you consider World coins, ancients have a wonderful history that could be explored, not to mention the possibility of errors and varieties. There's a whole numismatic world out there waiting for you. Think about that when you look at your nickel set and smile. You have many fellow collectors here and many (probably most) of us have purchased things that weren't what we expected once we received them, but we're still here :D

Thank you for the encouraging feedback. I guess I was just thinking about what had happened before. I am happy with them and the few people I shared them with thought they were very nice. (not into the hobby) so really not critical but happy anyway. I really do like them.. :)

    grovey -

Try posting the individual pics - it may not be near as bad as you think ;)

In the scheme of things the only opinion that matters is yours !!!

If you like them then they are perfect.Do not let the opinion of others be the guiding light of your collection .

check out the (Whats it grade threads), the opinions will vary ,,,
