Hi. My thirteen year old son has one "coin" given to him by his late grandfather. It to me appears to be a gold plated silver token from washington DC. I've compared it to a Silver American Eagle, and its the exact same diameter and thickness. It weighs on a gram scale 30.9 rather than 31.3. I would really really appreciate anyone with info on where it came from. I'm guessing his grandfather got it as a souvenir in Washington some years ago. He's recently passed, so we can't ask him. Thanks! Lee
I think I have found it. It is a 24kt Gold commemorative coin. Below is a link to a ebay ad. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350318473583&rvr_id=&crlp=1_263602_263622&UA=%3F*I7&GUID=0003a0011270a0aad234d794fe916cfa&itemid=350318473583&ff4=263602_263622
Only two problems with that theory: It's a token/medal/"collectible" round, not a coin. A gold item would weigh more, not slightly less, than a silver piece of identical size.
If you check the link that is what it says. I just found one like it. I dont know if it is true or not
lol it sure it...As a matter of fact I am staring at one right now. My wife bought the exact same token for me while she was visiting D.C last year. I take that back, mine is different but not by much.
Thanks but... the link to ebay is only similar- its not the same. The upper left building on ebay looks like the Lincoln memorial. On my son's token its the White House. Any other ideas? Thanks everyone!
BTW- no way its gold, its the same dimensions as a silver round, and a tiny bit lighter. I'm guessing 90% silver rather than 99%.
Any markings on the edge? Typically precious metal rounds are marked somewhere on them with a weight and/or fineness..
