Is this coin genuine and if so, who does it depict and how much is it worth? Thanks. http://cgi.ebay.com/DRAPED-BUST-MAX...155140246QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item330155140246
The coin depicts Maximinus I (Thrax). I see nothing to make me think it's not genuine. As for worth, not sure. You should be able to find some similar coins by searching VCoins to see what the dealer market is asking for them.
Definately Maximinus Thrax, but might it not still be in the right size range for a sestertius? Particularly for this time period. I think i see orichalcum under there... Gotta love that chin - he looks like Leno!
The coin is Maximinus I (Thrax) Sestertius with OBV. MAXIMINVS PIVS AVG GERM, laureate, draped bust right / PAX AVGVSTI S-C, Pax standing left with branch and scepter. Cohen 38 worth maybe 20 bucks more or less...its in poor shape. One of my favorite emperors, here is a quick bio and coin of his that I own: http://www.cachecoins.org/maximinusthrax.htm
Thanks for the shared knowledge on this coin guys! It looks like the winning bid was $27. I didn't realize it was worth that much. I don't know much about ancients but I thought that coin looked pretty cool and was considering bidding on it if it was going to sell for under $10.
