Please Help Grade Some SLQs

Good Morning All!

Please help me grade these SLQs. I don't have a photo grade book and I am not a huge fan of circulated coins. My goal is to possibly trade these in for a BU example, year not that important.

What do you think they would be worth, a piece, ball park, on a good day? I would like to think I could 10 bucks a piece, maybe, on a good day.

I would say about good for all three. But Ben is right on thier worth. $10.

 

They will probably grade better than good. Some of these dates were struck very weak and the dates were raised which is why they wore first. I have seen some 23 SLQ's that were worse off than yours that were graded Fine.

 

Good point and one that needs to be taken into consideration with SLQs. They changed the date design in 1925. Full dates on circulated coins before then are much tougher to find.

Seeing evidence of chain mail and nearly complete outer shield rims I would put these coins in the VG10-F12 range. I've seen weaker examples in PCGS holders as F12.

More like $15-25 per coin.

This is what I was hoping for. I knew about the weak strike or high date with these years and yet I still had no reasonable idea of a realistic grade.

I hope to put together a BU year set that will include a SLQ. The half will cost a fortune. I leaning toward a 1929S. This would be great because to date I have no Bu year sets from the 20's.

Glad to help Allen. I see these OVERGRADED on ebay all of the time. On the other hand finding someone to trade with that won't UNDERGRADE them will be a challenge.

I've been "toying" with the set in circulated grade for a while now. Told my local dealer(s) I wanted a VG 21-S with a full date and they both pretty much laughed. One did manage to get me one with all 4 digits visible although very mushy.

People grade them using different paramaters. I use ANA and rely a lot on gown and shield detail. Many use PCGS which seems to focus a lot on the knee.

What I've seen here on CoinTalk is that people really are brutal when grading them. To me this is not a normal coin - it's like a Buffalo Nickel beautiful but HORRIBLY designed. G4's in these series' are really weak looking coins.. An AG3 is borderline slug.
