Would really like to know what you guys think about this seated dime - no stars on obverse. Thanks! Eduard
I am out of my element again, but that is a real clean looking coin - real clean. Too bad it does not have a better strike. I will guess a 65?
I would go with a MS 64 there are some minor flaws that will drop the grade ,a couple of nicks on the obverse fieldsa black oxidation spot. The reverse looks clean the strike is nice. The eye apeal is nice. The light toning will do no justice to bring the the grade up,since it's not that well toned/ Overall to me a nice MS64 JC
Nice small date. It's a two year type coin so that helps the price just a bit. I'll go 63 maybe 64 but the area to the right of the date bothers me. Nice coin.
Not really qualified to grade this coin, no experience with these. My guess is that it is MS grade. Beyond that, I'm sure someone better at grading than I can help. Happy you posted it, the pictures are great. Thanks!
Eduard, you have this coin in hand, yes ? So tell me, are there or are there not luster breaks in the circled areas ?
I am having a hard time spotting light rub on this coin- endemic to the series! If there is luster on the head, bust, thigh and reverse leaf ends- MS and a really nice one. Otherwise, I say high end AU. I just can't read the luster from the photos. sorry.
I have to say this coin is a sweet sweet AU55/58. I see light wear on the breast, legs and arm, just a hint mind you but enough to keep the coin from being MS. SInce this coin is only a two year type it is a bit harder to grade that the other ones in the series since the only thing you have to go off of is the image on the obv.
Thanks guys. Well, i've been staring at the coin for about 10 minutes now, and yes, I do see a light break in the luster on the areas Doug circled, and which Bqcoins pointed out. It is very, very slight, and NOT obvious at all as the coin is nicely and uniformly toned; However there is either some slight wear, or rub on that area. (I know at a glance the coin appears to be fully MS, and I am tempted to call it so. BUT, I am not affected by the coin owners syndrome which Dr. Sheldon aptly described as 'ownership is worth 5 points'). Stacks also described it as almost uncirculated, with very slight rub on the high areas. I guess today that means AU55-58. Thanks again for your comments, Eduard
I'll add the link to the thread I started about a week ago about the (underappreciated) no-stars design: http://www.cointalk.com/forum/t56020/
Kaz , like your new Avatar . The coin looks High AU to me , really would love to see it in hand , real nice coin . rzage:hatch::hammer:
Thanks, Rusty, I just today figured how the avatar thingy works (d'oh!) My Isabella is NGC AU58; in retrospect, I think it was dipped and retoned in an album, but has nice luster. (sharp eyes you have, sir!)
Thank you Kaz for linking your thread on the no-stars dime. I was 'inspired' when i read that thread to also post my examples. Like you, I also prefer the no-stars design to those that followed. I would like to show you and have your opinions on this 1838-O please. It is nowhere near as well preserved as the 1837, and more darkly toned. Thanks in advance for your comments, Eduard
That's another attractive scarcity, Eduard! I think it's VF- about 20- a very nice example, imho. Nice patina.
Must be those new glasses Doug. And we're not getting older we're getting mellower like good wine:thumb:. Rusty
