This is my very first Morgan Dollar. I am new to collecting. Can anyone give more more info? All I know is that it is from 1884.

Congrats on your 1st Morgan. 1884 is a common date, feel free to ask away what you want to know.

I think he is asking for value, grade, mintage, the basics from a Morgan expert.

Nice coin, though it is very common.

    Grade: Vf-30 IMO

    Mintage: 14,070,000

Value: $30 give or take a few dollars.

Thank you all and thank you Zach. I appreciate that. Question. Is Red Book only in book form? Do they have a web site? I ask bec uase it being 2012 already, why wouldn't they have a website with the same info?

The Red Book is great for the basics about almost all US coins. Whitman also publsihes more indepth books on certain series. The information I just gave you, besides the pricing, came from "A Guide Book of Morgan Silver Dollars" by Q. David Bowers... AKA the Morgan Dollar Red Book.

There are a number of websites you can use....

    For pricing, try www.Numismedia.com

This link is helpful for grading, http://www.pcgs.com/Photograde/

Another good book is the ANA Grading Standards..

You can always simply google something like "1884 Morgan Dollar Mintage" and you can usually find an accurate source.

The redbook comes out every year, with the 2013 version coming out soon, but don't rely on it for prices, so you could get the 2012 version for pretty cheap, and the redbook itself is only available in book form

Well, it's available in digital format also. Amazon lists their Kindle version for $8.99.

Yes, there are Adobe PDF versions of most of those books floating around if you know where to look for them...very helpful to use on an iPhone or laptop. Much easier to carry around, too...
