    Plating Split-Doubling (AKA Split-Line Doubling)

Here is the obverse and reverse of a 1992D with Plating Split-Doubling on the mintmark and parts of the reverse motto and memorial; the bottom image is from a 1988D with slight Plating Split-Doubling on the mintmark (black arrows).

Incidentally, the '92D also shows evidence of machine doubling on the very bottom of the MM and also on the bottom of the 2 in the date (white arrows).

These are often erroneously identified as RPMs or Doubled Dies.

I wish I could get good close-up pics like that. Very nice.

Thanks! I use a binocular scope with a digital camera to take most of my coin photographs.
