I have a 1867 nickel 3 cent with a planchet defect - nice coin otherwise - I am new to this and wondering what planchet defects to to the value?
Can you post a pic so we can see it? That would give us a better chance to formulate a correct opinion...
ok thanks - I was asking a generic question on planchet defects - once I have the coin in hand and figure out how to upload pictures - I will post this one
Curious Welcome Allen~ I'm curious, too. Perhaps I can shake out some opinions by posting my generic photo. I found this coin in change and set it aside because it looked "different". I threw this under my "soup bowl" camera system to evaluate it. It looks like a problem with the planchet to me. Now, does this coin HAVE a planchet defect? And is it of a type that adds value?
thanks for the reply - the coin has an area missing along the top edge - it looks like due to the stamping process due to inferior material or not enough for a complete coin. I will work on figuring out how to post pictures. Allen
Hi, We need a picture of the Original poster's coin to figure out what kind, if any the suspected planchet defect could be. The quarter is just damaged . "Environmental damage" also known as corrosion is the culprit Thanks, Bill
