The scans don't do justice to this 1879s (need to purchase a digital camera ) but this morgan is one of my favorite coins. It has great luster and a semi frosted relief on the reverse. Im thinking possible MS-64 if i decide to submit it for grading. It lists for only 60$ in MS-64 ,but thats bound to increase over time.
Hi SS, Morgan's are also one of my favorite US coins. Nothing like a big ol chunck of silver, except of course gold. But the main thing is to collect what YOU like.
Silver Surfer- Look at the pics in posts #18 and #21 of the two 1879-S in the thread: Nice Top 50 Peace dollar Spider nesvt submitted his coin to Leroy Van Allen of Van Allen and Mallis. The VAM guy. It came back as a new find 1879-S "Beauty Mark" VAM 48a. R6. I only own 2 1879-S Morgans. One of them happened to be the 2nd known R6 VAM 48a. Take a look at yours. You never know, you may have the 3rd.
If those scratches on the cheek are on the coin, not the holder, I think they would keep the coin from reaching MS64.
The bigger scatch is on the case the smaller one is on the coin, but im hoping the overall condition will help balance it out
