I was looking at the price guide on PCGS price guide and they list PL and DMPL on every coin. http://www.pcgs.com/prices/PriceGuideDetail.aspx?MS=4&PR=1&c=744&title=Morgan+Dollar What is that? thanks. andy
PL is proof like. DMPL is deep mirror proof like. One you can read news print at 4" and the other you can read news print at 8". The entire field on both sides of the coin must meet the criteria to be either PL or DMPL. Hope this helps.
These are surface designations that describe a coin with mirror-like surfaces. PL = Prooflike (2-4 inches clear reflectivity) DMPL = Deep Mirror ProofLike (6+ inches clear reflectivity)
ahh awesome. i thought it might have been something like that. thanks! last one. on pennies, what is bn, rb, and rd? thanks!
Bought this for fun. How does the first coin look? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250517420105&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT I thought it was unique since it was a original roll from the Cleveland bank.
Here is a DMPL example for you. It is very hard to photograph the mirrors but you can tell how black they are.
Its not morgans, but here is a recent thread I wrote on PL Franklins: http://www.cointalk.com/t74503/
Agreed it is very hard to photograph these coins. Here are some interesting photos I took of a DMPL obverse: Regular Shot: Diffused Lighting: Close Up Shot: Can you see the reflection of both the camera and my fingers in the last photo?
To andopcamando Deep Mirror Proof-Like. I posted an article with photos of Morgan Dollars having DMPL, P-L, DM, and other surfaces on them some time ago. It's in the Coin Talk Archives. Do a search to read the post Clinker
