The town of Pittsboro,North Carolina has started to print there own currency in denominations of $1,$5,$10,$20 and$50dollar denominations. For 9dollars you get 10dollars of Pittsboro currency. Capital Bank of Pittsboro is printing the currency. I am going to try and pick up some since I live 20mins from pittsboro
not bad will all the entities that do print their own local currencies, it would be cool to set up a collection of them all lol i wonder if they have a website where you can buy them
I received the news in my local paper and they did mention a couple of other towns that are doing the same thing. But I will check out Pittsboro and let everyone know what and when.
i found this link talking about the Pittsboro 'Plenty'. I also tried to find where to find the Detroit Cheer notes. I figured since it was my own backyard so to speak, i should at least look i had little success finding anything more then news saying they were out there.
Dont go there.. PLEASE just dont go there well, on the bright side... at least i could read the silly notes... but then agian.. if the notes are printed in lingo of the D .. i might not be able to
They have been doing this in Western Mass for a couple of years now... "Berkshares" Pretty cool... Keep us posted!! RickieB
Ithaca New York and Madison Wisconsin have also been doing this for a number of years. Some have referred to these notes as modern Depression Scrip. That is a little overstated. Here is some real Depression Scrip.
i dont think, from a collectors standpoint, i could bring myself to 'collect' the type of notes you posted lettow. What brings me to them is some of the outstanding desings One of my coworkers went to opening day here in Detroit. I asked him if he would check with the local bars/pubs/whereever if they had any he laughed and said nope lol
