Today one of my biggggggest coin dreams realised. Here it is - "PIGASUS" It has some scratches, but it is trifle - this is a serious animal, it's like scars adorn a hero. Please, post your pigasus MYSIA, Kyzikos. Circa 550-500 BC. EL Stater (16x19 mm, 15.96 g). Obv.: Forepart of winged boar left; below, tunny left / Rev.: Quadripartite incuse square.
Look at that Pigasus strut! That is a damn fine coin, Ivan. That hefty a piece of electrum must feel very nice in hand. Congrats!
Fabulous! I am of course jealous. Stater-weight Pigasi are a rare breed indeed I posted my Pigasi recently but here they are again left to right, from the top: Rhodos, Iolysos AR 9; Klazomenai diobol; Kisthene (under Pharnabazos) AE9 Klazo. AE11, unlisted; Klazo AE11 unlisted; Kisthene (under Orontes) AE10 Klazomenai diobol; Kisthene (under Orontes) AE11 Mytilene hekte; Klazomenai AR7, 0.27 gm; Samos drachm Klazomenai drachm; Klazomenai AE16
Thanks Zumbly, I can not let him "fly" out from my hands after I have take him today at morning. It's amazing feeling with his shape and weight. TIF, I remember your Lesbos EL hekte. This is your "fault" , I saw your coin and decided to surpass
Wow Ivan, that's a fantastic hunk of bacon!! (congrats) => oh, and don't forget that wonderful golden tuna!! ... sadly, I don't think I have any flyin' pigs? (*sigh*) Oh, and great pig-display as always, TIF
That is a serious animal. It is also a serious coin. Great stike, centering, and detail! And it's big and heavy. Definitely on my in-the-next-20-years wishlist.
My eyes saw "Pegasus" in your writeup, but I couldn't find the Pegasus. Took me a moment to see what you did there. Great PIGasus. Lovely coin for sure.
Definately an awsome addition @I_v_a_n I wanted to add one myself but thought @TIF already had them all
Fantastic 'Pigasus' @I_v_a_n !!! And a stater too!!! I'm still missing any but I do 'blame' @TIF for many of my purchases too
And it is GREAT! I very love CT community and have to decide to stay here from all of the english language forums.
Fantastic coin Ivan! One of the prettiest Pigasus's I have ever seen. I have gotta get me some gold someday.
Fantastic coin, Ivan! I have picked up two Kyzikos staters in the past 9 months and here there are: 450-430 BC, 20 mm, 16.00 g. Orestes kneeling left, resting left arm on omphalos, with right arm extended [and holding sword]. Represents the opening scene of the Eumenides, the third play of the Oresteia, Aeschylus' trilogy first produced in 458 BC. 450-430 BC, 19 mm, 16.09 g. Youthful Dionysos reclining left, on the back of a panther moving to right, holding a kantharos in his extended right hand and resting his left arm on the side of the panther; to left, below knee, tip of his thyrsos; below, over panther’s legs, tunny fish left.
Ancientnut, very beautiful staters. Scene kyzicenes like yours very interesting. For me, I think to stay in the archaic period, with the company of such a winged animals: boars, lions, bulls, wolves ... I like this myths creatures - they have a roots in the very deep of milleniums.
