That's a good point. With the new rim details it is now, more important than ever to handle these with cotton gloves to keep that 3rd field pristine. The rims are going to get a lot more attention than before.
I plan on keeping some, but the only way we can hope for them to circulate is to lead the way and start spending them. I plan on spending them right along side the halves I use on a daily basis.:thumb:
Okay, you can now have a washington type set: Quarter, Dollar, half dollar, Layfette dollar, SD quarter, mt. Rushmore dollar and half dollar...they should have had a Benjamin Franklin commem dollar with the "presidential reverse."
Call the mint today at 12 noon and got through. The rep seemed like a rookie ordered only the 2 rolls of Denver already got 4 of the Philly from bank. Also got 3 of the 2006 unc sets and 2006 kennedy rolls. Rep said they (Halves) will not be out for another 20 days, I had to beg him to check that there were still some 2006. Was off the phone by 12:15 not bad There web site was jammed up phone works better
I probably will only get the proof set. Maybe a roll or two. I think the obverse is just to ugly. The only thing I like about it is the reverse. That's just me. Phoenix
i have just bought a few rolls from the bank as well, and let me tell you, an freshly-opened roll stacked up is a beautiful thing to look at... especially with some sunlight reflecting off of it, with the edge lettering sparkling beautifully. the look and feel of the coin is wonderful in my opinion, and i think it may go well/better with the public this time. EDIT: also, i heard that something was made/added/changed to the coin so that it doesn't turn into a dull/dark-brownish color, allowing the shine/original color to stay on longer? is that true? also, what is the metal compositions of this coin? is it the same as the sacs? if not, what was the sac's metal composition?
I'm with you Frank on both points - George looks really mad (maybe because they put him on another coin) and his eyes look a little spooky. I like the color beter than the Sac. I don't think that the edge lettering is going to last long in circulation. Based on the scratches on all of the ones from the roll I picked up today the lighter color may show wear/marks more? I did handle mine with gloves just to keep the prints off the edge.
So I kept 7 (6 for me and 1 for my son) of the dollars from my roll and brought all but the one I spent yesterday into work. I put them all into 2X2's and offered them for a $1 to my coworkers. They were gone almost instantly and many said they would give them to their kids. Maybe some new collectors will be started on this coin? Everyone thought the edge lettering was really cool and most knew nothing about them.
