As promised here are the side by side photos of the new SF Mint Commem reverse next to a real Morgan. What do you all think? (click twice to see more details)
Is it just me, or does the reverse on the commem look... flatter? Less detailed? Personally, I'd take any mint-state Morgan over the commem. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad-looking, I just don't think it's particularly good-looking either. Fish
Tjat's right. It almost looks like they cleaned the Morgn half to make it more cartoonish. Its not a deliccate. See the arrow feathers and the chest feathers. Ruben
Ruben: I can see what you are saying, and I agree. The tail feathers are also very weak, and the redesign to the wreath takes out some of the detail. Also, some slight changes and repositioning of the lettering. Still not that bad, considering what we have become accustomed to.
The biggest change is the head of the eagle, which on a morgan is almost like a seperate peice of artwork with a clear line that delineates it from the body. As far as I can tell it is a cheap counterfiet
Thanks...dipped it myself...just kidding. Did you guys notice that the lettering is much thicker than the original? Here are a couple more shots with direct light to bring out as much detail as this puppy has.
Mikjo0, I believe all the photos you have shown are of Uncirculated SF Mint. The proof version of SF Mint may show better detail. If what I say is correct, could some one post the photos of the reverse of proof SF Mint? Of course then we won't be comparing apples to apples! Thanks. Al
sorry, they are both photos of the new SF coin with slightly different lighting. Alhas,I posted the proof reverse in an earlier thread but here it is again, and you're right about the detail.
