Hey folks, Had some MPCs roll into work today (Military Payment Certificates). Not my specialty but I do like them. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but all are series 681 which I believe saw use in Vietnam. Really only wanted the $1 note but asked the boss what he wanted for the lot. Got him in a good mood again. Total cost was nothing. He gave them to me. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0006-13.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0007-14.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0009-13.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0010-10.jpg Not CU or anywhere near it but neat.
The dime is a replacement. Note the lack of a suffix letter in the serial number. Only 35 are recorded in the census of replacements at www.papermoneyworld.net. Only 672,000 were printed. It catalogs at $85.00 in VG and $125.00 in Fine.
Those are really cool. I especially love spacewalk image on the back (Ed White). I'll have to try and pick up some of those at some point.
Dan You know I am jealous! Next time some 681's come in please keep me in mind! Very nice score - advantage of working in a coin shop... Best Regards - Darryl
Clembo: Since you were only really interested in the $1.00 note, I will take the ten cent note off your hands for 100x what you paid for the whole lot.
Might generous offer lettow but I think I'll pass. I really DO appreciate the information though. Obiously neither I or my boss are strong on MPCs. Not cool to cherry pick the boss though even if you didn't mean to so I'll square up with him. Not at full retail though!
Very nice notes. My bro-in-law sold some of those without telling me. Didn't think I'd consider them as notes. If you run into some doubles..............lol... John
