What do you guys think of this? http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/forums/Sech10o.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/forums/Sech10r.jpg Seychelles 1974 Ten Rupees. Pick 15b. Catalogues at $350 in CU and this note is CU. What - you guys thought I didn't know anything about this stuff? I really did pick this one up today. Then I looked it up in the book and put it in a holder for the boss. I didn't say I bought it did I? I know, "that was cruel clembo" but it is an interesting note how we came about it is as well. Yesterday we had a guy come into the shop with a box of "stuff" as we call it. One U.S. proof set and the rest all world stuff. We're not real strong on world but the guy wanted to dump it. Seems his uncle was a collector that did a lot of world traveling in the 60s and 70s. I went through the coins yesterday and nothing really earth shattering. A few better sets but basically what I'm used to seeing. A lot of the stuff will end up in the "dime box" we keep. So today I dig into the paper. Honestly, this is usually an excrutiating task for me. It's excrutiating because it's usually stuff that's common as dirt in low grade. This too ends up in a "bargain box". Well, today I looked up at least 100 notes. I put ONE in the "bargain box". I actually enjoyed this today and am looking forward to more tomorrow. Most of the stuff is in GREAT shape. High end AU-CU+. I found many notes in the $20-40 range. A few higher and a few over $100. This one is the cream of the crop so far but who knows I'm not even half way through it! So, I don't own this note but it is nice and a nice change of pace for me. It will most likely go on Ebay tomorrow so I'll add if anyone is interested PM me and I'll lead you to the auction (am I allowed to do this?) The boss will most likely be posting SEVERAL World Notes in the next week or so. clembo
This is a fascinating note, and one I have not seen outside a catalogue picture. You will have to look and see if there is a 50 Rupees note in the lot from the previous series, preferably in unc. That is a very very famous note in world banknote collecting because of a suggestively arranged placement of the palm frawns in the palm trees that spells out S E X. This was a huge scandal when it broke. The notes had hit circulation and this was noticed right away and the notes were withdrawn and a new series printed albeit without the offending arrangment of palm frawns. These notes go for several hundred dollars now.
Oh what fun it is to ride in a 1 horse... i mean how much fun it is to look through a box of notes That note is very nice looking! I love notes from those island notions with the palm trees, the sea life ect very calming and exciting to look at!
Superb!! Clembo, I love the Sea Turtle on that note and the Blue color is wonderful. Congrats! RickieB
