they were in the coin bin so I grabbed them...just because I liked them. Are they any good? Just noticed a rotated die on the nickel
As long as they were cheap in the coin bin, then I say well done. Nothing that will make you rich, but I think all copper is good copper....lol.
Decent looking No Cent Nickel there Twiggs. Can't tell if it's been cleaned by the pics but if the LIBERTY is full you have an F12. A nice example if you didn't pay too much.
For some reason those worn large cents interest me, I just imagine being a kid in 1850 and having about 4 of them in my pocket walking down a dirt street barefooted heading to the general store.... of course they would be shiny then....
Twiggs, The 1883 Nickel V looks to be a VG-8 Variety 1 (without Cents), which the 2007 Redbook says about a $7.00 value. The die rotation may interest an error collector, more then the straight coin would. The 1850 large cent, charitably call it G-4 (as there is no LIBERTY visible), which Redbook says about $16.00. BTW, your avatar is kickin it, is that you?
AWESOME comment Captainkirk. Give me an honestly well-worn coin any day over these fancy-dancy, cotton gloved (Oh I gotta put it in a bank vault) coins ANY, ANY, ANY day!!!! I think bostonmike talks about this too. I don't want the coin that's never seen oxygen. Give me dirt - give me grime - give me factory smoke. Oh and I'm sorry, but Aunt Mabel tried to clean the nickel in 1914 and so now it's been "cleaned"! MAKE IT REAL. Twiggs, I think you got yourself a really, really cool set of coins there.
I checked it out on my x30 and didnt see any signs of it being cleaned. Usually you can see cleaning residue in the creases
I personally like the 2/3 cent. It's ultra-rare and Clembo is going to write up an eBay auction description for me.
