Here's a link; www.coinpeople.com/index.php?showtopic=10746&hl=zimbabwe . It is interesting to note that the new notes are still called 'Bearer Cheques'.The one for 1c. is rather cute. Please click on the photos to enlarge. Aidan.
I thought they were about to issue a 1,000,000 dollar cheque. What gives with the low denomination notes??
BTW, I just got back in the mail a 20,000 dollar bearer cheque autographed by former PM Ian Douglas Smith. A great souvenir from a past PM on a worthless note from his replacement, who has ruined the country.
Best to hang onto that one. JBK,you'd better hang onto that one,as former Prime Minister Ian Smith of Rhodesia is now living in a rest home in South Africa. He was a very interesting man in his day.I've read his autobiography. Aidan.
I knew he was in SA as that is where I sent it, but I did not know he was in a home. The writing does look quite shaky. It must be killing him to see what is happening in Zimbabwe. His life must indeed have been interesting and unusual. If I recall correctly, he was even elected as PM after the change from white rule to full democracy. That says a lot for his leadership.
JBK,Ian Smith is 87 years old.I saw him on T.V. a few years ago when he was being interviewed for the BBC's 'HardTalk' programme.Even back then,he was looking quite frail, but he wasn't mad or anything like that. His wife died back in 1994.He retired as Prime Minister of Rhodesia in early 1979,but he was still well respected, even by his critics in the British Commonwealth. Aidan.
I have finally managed to get nearly all of the new Zimbabwean Bearer Cheques. The bottom values from 1c. to 50c. is printed on paper that was left over from printing the old $500 banknotes.I haven't yet been able to get the $10,000 & $100,000 ones. There are actually 2 types of the $10,000 one - with '$10000' & with '$10 000' expressed. Aidan.
