Sorry if this is a waste of bandwidth.

I have an Olympus E300 and can't for the life of me take any decent coin pictures.. I am a fair photographer at best, but I can't even remotely get these coins even slightly focused.

I have the regular 14-45mm lens.

    Thanks in advance,

    Bill

    1) Does your camera have a Macro Mode? If so, are you shooting in Macro Mode?

    2) If your camera does not have a Macro Mode you should look for a Macro Kit for the camera.

Are you placing the camera on a tripod and using either a shutter release or a timer?

Camera does have a Macro mode... it's apparently something with the settings best I can tell. I do have a 5.1MP camera somewhere that'll take good pics of the coins, but I wanted to use the DSLR.

So your camera is a DSLR. With the right lens you should be able to take GREAT coin photos with it. You will need a Macro lens to do that. I use a Sigma 105 mm Macro lens.

As Green pointed out, you will also need a tripod or a copy stand to hold the camera steady. I recommend a copy stand because a heavy DSLR and lens can tip over a tripod.

    Leadfoot there is no spoon

You will need a macro lens or close-focusing filters to be attached to your existing lens.

THat and a tripod and/or copy stand should greatly improve your captures.

    Good luck....Mike
