I hope I am posting this in the right thread!

I have been a member of this forum for only a day now and I am quite amazed at the collections I've seen.

One thing that I found was interesting is the clarity at which pictures of coins were posted.

My question, as perhaps someone who has taken these flawless pictures can help answer, is how exactly do you get such in-depth and especially close up detail with a digital camera when photographing coins.

Any tips and recommendations are humbly obliged, thank you.

Do a search within coin talk and you will see that the subject has been discussed every which way.

    Here's one of the threads:

    Quick tips:

-Good Lighting, I use GE Reveal Lightbulbs angled at around 45 degrees
-Diffused lighting, I use a simple milk/water jug (see Washington post article in the above link). NO flash
    -Tri-pod
    -Macro lens setting
-Black, porous background (so no light is reflected, like a black t-shirt)
    -Practice

    Thanks Ed,

So far I can do... Lighting and Black background.

Hopefully I can get a knack for practice too :D

    One last thing:

I have access to some Olympus phase contrast microscopes through my contacts at Yale (I don't know the model #'s.)

The lowest resolution, unfortunately, is 100x (10x eyepiece x 10x lense.) Is there anyone who is very microscope savvy that knows if when snapping a digital picture with one of these, if removing the sliding 10x eyepiece will cause the digital shot to be 1/10 of the resolution and therefor produce an image of the entire coin instead of pieces of it?

Edited to Add: Anyone know any tips for refracting the light on one of these, I'm pretty sure the coin will block all incoming light from the beam. The lenses on these are pretty darn immaculate, so any suggestions on that too would be appreciated.
