Read this very recent thread on cameras, lighting, etc.: http://www.cointalk.org/thread8136-camera-for-coins.html
I think I am going to buy this setup. Has anyone else purchased this or something similar? Any suggestions or comments? http://store.tabletopstudio-store.com/cophkit.html
Before you drop over $100...buy a tri-pod, GE Reveal Light Bulbs, find some black cloth, and a water jug. The whole purpose of this kit is to mimic natural light. You can do that with the GE Reveal light bulbs that encompass the natural light spectrum, versus the "yellowing" you get from most light bulbs. Also, put coins on a black background (like a black t-shirt). Since black is absent of color and does NOT reflect light, it will not hinder the natural colors coming from the light source nor will the colors of the background effect the coin's natural color. The water jug is for th purpose of diffused lighting...which is what this kit consists of. Use you marcro setting and experiment first.
Any others? I'm looking 4 just a stand that holds lights. Less $ too. I saw one last year 4 about $60 but I can't find out where it came from. tia BTW Thanks Jim..Midas
Check this out. You can illuminate the coin with a flourescent desk lamp. It's only $39.00 Copy Stand
If your on WINS you might want to ask...there is a guy (I won't say any names) on there that makes them every now and then and from what I have seen they look and work great. Speedy
Speedy, what is WINS? Silverdollarman, the site I posted has a photo stand for $39.95. You don't have to buy the entire setup. I just bought two flexible neck desk lamps and sunlight bulbs for $18 at Fry's Electronics. I also bought a mini tripod for $16 all as recommended by Midas. I will let you know how it works after I drink a gallon of milk and take some photos. If the tripod does not work I will order the photo stand. Good luck with your photos.
WINS stands for World Internet Numismatic Society...its an online club... http://www.winsociety.org/index.html Lots of great members there. Speedy
