I've decided that for fine details, a photo is better. Guess I'm gonna have to buy a camera lol.

Here is a closeup of a Doubled Die that was scanned at 9600dpi and resized to 500 pixels wide.

And here is a full sized coin. Same thing, scanned at 9600dpi and resized.

So for coins that don't need detailed closeups I'm gonna continue scanning. But for closeups I'm gonna start taking photos. Who knows, maybe once I get me camera set up I'll be easy enough to use on all of them lol.

Here are some close-ups using a stereomicroscope at 60X taken at 640x480........no resizing.....no cropping.....no nuthin'!

Nice. I'm gonna try the loupe in front of the camera trick. I'm sure it won't be easy, seeing is my loupe is only 10x and about 30mm

I'd ditch the scanner, they really do a horrible job for coins IMO.

Your stereomicroscope is broke. It seems to be doubling everything! :kewl:

I thought so too, but then I realized I wasn't wearing my glasses.

If you want details - photos are better - but if you want to do overlays - I find scanners easier.
