That is the seventh coin pertaining to the ancient Phoenician people I have already owned. They were all struck under the Greek reign with Zeus often shown on the obverse. I think this time the lettering is Phoenician but a little bit different.
I have this bronze from Arados, the following attribution was given to me by Arados from forvmancientcoins : Phoenician letters nun (N) and resh (R) above, Aradian era date 112-113 below
Thanks Pish.. I tend to believe that the 2 letters above the ship ( left ) are just the same. It's the letter Nun( pronounce it " Noon" ). That is our reversed N . The Phoenician language was written from right to left. Ours is written from left to right ( Latin and Greek ).That's why the N is reversed.
Cool Phoenician examples, coin-bros (I don't have one of these babies, yet) Ummm, is that cool prow on the reverse? (man => I love prow/ship coins)
Hello, See a part of my Phoenicians silvers, nice letter too. The first one is a stater from Aradus and is real beauty. See also two coins with Mermaids and dragon, quite rare I think and some obols and other staters. Have a excellent weekend !!
Hi Cyr. Believe me , I thought myself watching ancient pieces of engraved and handcrafted antiquities rather than ordinary ancient coins. Charles
