Hi. I have a 1945 Philippine coin with the reverse side showing some kind of welds all around it. Is this a certain type of minting. Also, what is your comment on the mintmark ? Your feedback will be highly appreciated. Thank you jachin
The coin was struck at the San Francisco Mint (thus the 'S' mintmark). Can you point out what you refer to as "welds". Welding is not part of the minting process. If your coin has weld marks or solder it may have been part of a piece of jewelry.
I believe what you are talking about is part of the coin. That is how the rim normally looks. I am not sure what you are asking about the mint mark but Hobo nailed it. I would add that it is smaller than a regular U.S. coin "s" mint mark and you can tell that by comparing them. Interesting to note is that is how the mercury dime 1945-S "small S" variety came about. The wrong sized mint mark punch was used.
Thank you guys. Let's forget about the welds but for the S mintmark, I will check it against a 45-S mercury dime.
