NAILED IT @panzerman ! Nice job... excellent piece! My Philip III Makedonon Philip III Arrhidaeus-Alexander IV (323-309 BCE) AR Drachm Amphipolis mint 2.59g 13.0mm Obv: Apollo Rev: Youth on horse VERY RARE SNG ANS 621 Le Rider 123 Philip III Arrhidaeus was son of Philip II and Alexander III the Great's older half-brother. He was feeble minded. According to Plutarch this was because Olympias, Alexander's mother, tried to poison him to give no rivals to Alexander ascending to the throne. Alexander liked Philip III and he accompanied him on the campaign through Persia. When he reigned in Makedonon 323-317 BCE, he was more of a figurehead. Alexander's son, Alexander IV (born Aug-323 - after his father's death), succeeded to the throne and reigned 317-309 BCE until he was killed by Cassander, who assumed the throne. Alexander IV was 14 when he was assassinated, which would had been the age where he could have full authority as king under Makedonon law.
Thanks so much for nice comments/ posts of his AR Drachms! And neat history about him. I am off to work now to pay for recent auction wins.... John
