Hello. First time posting on this forum. I am trying to get some info on this sealed philadephia mint bag. It is unopened, with the lead seal intact. The guy selling it says it was given to him around 1954. Does anyone know what something like this is worth? There isn't any identifiable marks on the lead seal. Thanks for any info anybody could provide. I would like to figure out a value so I can offer him a fair price.

honestly. Anything like this that involving coins is usually a scam. make him open it up. If he is wanting to sell it unopened than he knows exactly what's in it. No one would be foolish enough to sell something that can have something valuable in it.

I've known the guy for a few years now and believe he is honest. He said he had a few more of them that he opened and spent when he was a kid. He's not a collector and just wants to sell them because of that reason.

A lot would depend upon how well this was stored over the years. If moisture was involved, even if just kept in a damp environment, I'd be leery of it. Sealed or not it's worth quite a bit if the coins are in nice condition. Price out a single roll on ebay and do a little math. But yes, if he is serious about selling ask him to open so you can see if you are buying damaged coins. Also remember if it's been around this long it's probably seen some tossing around so those coins might have a lot of hits.
